2022 Diocesan Volleyball Championships Report
The following report is provided by Mr Kobelke, Open Boys Volleyball Coach.
After a two-year hiatus, Dio Volleyball is back! Team trials had been hotly contested and 6 teams were off to Coffs Harbour Stadium on Friday the 14th of October. The tournament has an energetic, competitive yet supportive atmosphere. SJRC performed well in the pool rounds with four out of six teams making it through to the semi-finals. The 15s boys, 15s girls and Open girls teams competed valiantly but were defeated at this level.
The highlight of the tournament was the Open boys grand-final against Mackillop College. After trailing by a few points for almost the entire match, the boys found a strong combination and scored several consecutive points to take the lead by one point in the final second and bring home the championship medals.
Thank you to all the coaches and students for your dedication and conduct on the day. A special thank you to Mr Damien Kelly and Mr Michael Cannon for facilitating such a well organised tournament. SJRC have certainly set up a great platform for future success in volleyball.
