SJRC News in Brief: Term 3 Week 1 -26th July 2024
Athletics Carnival Gratitude
I sincerely thank Mr Damien Kelly, our Leader of Sport, for orchestrating another outstanding Athletics Carnival. His efforts included meticulously planning pre-carnival races and events, setting the stage for today's success. A special thank you goes to our dedicated sports trainee, Emersyn Smith, for her invaluable support in assisting Mr Kelly with the organisation.
I also appreciate our incredible maintenance team, who ensured the oval was precisely marked and in tip-top condition for the event.
Of course, the carnival wouldn't be possible without the enthusiastic efforts of our entire staff. Your dedication made the event run smoothly from timekeeping and recording to catering, setup, and packing away equipment. I sincerely thank you all.
To our awesome students, thank you for your participation and for the College spirit you showed on the day.
Finally, congratulations to Flinders on being crowned House Champions. This week's News in Brief includes a full report of the results.

Grace and Jacob Kruk, are being welcomed into the Catholic Church at the 5:00pm Mass this coming Sunday. This is the culmination of nearly 10 weeks of formation on Catholic teachings. During this mass, along with a number of other young people in our Parish, they will receive their Sacraments of Initiation in front of our Parish faith community.
We invite members of our SJRC community to come along to witness this special occasion as part of our Youth and Family Mass. We are very grateful to Zac Parnell, our Parish Youth Coordinator, for guiding these students through their formation.

On Tuesday the 23rd of July our annual athletics carnival was held at the College. We were blessed with a perfect day as temperatures topped 19 degrees at lunch. The prize was the CC Adams Shield which is awarded to the winning House.
The day began with the first of six rotations. All students competed in the 100m, 200m, Javelin, Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump before lunch. Our wonderful staff officiated all events and assisted with recording, marshaling, & catering. After lunch the 100m finals were contested followed by the double points relays.
Congratulations to Flinders who won the day. This completes the treble for Flinders who have taken out the Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics carnivals.
Full results, age champions and records – please read on.
The SJRC Athletics Squad to compete at the Lismore Diocesan Carnival in Coffs Harbour will be notified soon.

Vinnies Winter Appeal
Vinnies Schools SleepOUT
A major fundraiser for the St Vincent de Paul Society is the Winter SleepOut.
Last year, St Agnes' Secondary Schools raised $3000.00 to support people sleeping rough during winter.
What is a Vinnies School SleepOUT?
A Vinnies School SleepOUT allows students and school communities to participate in an experiential event.
Participants construct their own bedding and shelters out of cardboard, a cup of soup, and bread for dinner. They will brave the cold for one night while learning about some of the harsh realities faced by those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage.
It encourages students to understand homelessness more deeply while raising funds and awareness for Vinnies Homeless Services and Programs in the local area.
This year, the Vinnies winter sleepout takes place on:
Friday, the 2nd of August,
at Mackillop College Senior Campus.
Arrive at 6:00 pm and Depart 7:30 am
Participants will need to be dropped off and picked up by their parents or guardians.
If you are interested in participating in the Vinnes SleepOUT, click on the link below to register.
