SJRC Newsletter: Term 4 Week 8 - 6th December 2024
Display Night- Illuminate 2024
We sure did 'Illuminate' our student's hard work at this year's Display Night.
Congratulations to the Creative Arts and TAS faculties for putting on a spectacular "Illuminate" night. From the student work on display in the hall to the live music performances, to the food, to the performances in the two concerts, it was all to an amazing standard.
The students were so proud of their work and performances, and their families were beaming with pride and gratitude for all our teachers do.
Sincere gratitude to all staff who assisted on the day or in the evening with setting up, parking, welcoming, stage assistance, cooking etc. I could not have been prouder of St Joseph's Regional College staff; teamwork and supporting the college community are among our greatest strengths.
Enrolment 2025
It would be greatly appreciated if parents/carers could notify me at the College as soon as possible if their son/daughter will not be attending St Joseph's Regional College in 2025. We have a number of applications for places at the College for 2025, and it would be good to be able to offer places where known vacancies will occur. If you are relocating or moving your child to another school, please notify us. Thank you.

Calling all budding photographers!
As part of the Jubilee Year, the Vatican is promoting an international photography contest, titled: ‘Sport in Motion’. It is for young photographers, professional or amateur, under the age of 25.
There are five categories: sport and hope, sport and family, sport and disability, sport and politics, and sport and ecology.
The winners will be awarded a meeting with the Holy Father, a visit to the Vatican Museums, a workshop in the Osservatore Romano newspaper and their photo will be published internationally.
Do you know a young person - student or teacher - who may be interested in entering this competition?
The deadline to enter is 30 April 2025.

The Macquarie University Year 11 Emerging Leaders Award for 2024 goes to Bonnie Clarke and Jacob Hill. This award recognises Year 11 students who demonstrate academic achievement and outstanding contributions to school life. Along with the award comes opportunities in the form of an invitation to a Leadership Forum, access to HSC Study Lab, and exclusive invitations to Macquarie University events in 2025.
Congratulations, Bonnie and Jacob!
Senior Study Transition Day
Last Friday, all Year 10 students participated in a Senior Study Transition Day. The aim of the day was to set up each student for success in their studies next year.
Those students attending Newman Senior Technical College or other pathways participated in a series of hands-on workshops specific to competency-based learning and skills required to move into workplace settings.
Those students continuing with HSC studies at SJRC engaged in sessions on brain science, sleep, and study skills and spent some time with their senior PC teachers. We are grateful for CSU's support throughout the day.

Year 7-10 Semester 2 Awards ceremony
The Year 7-10 Semester 2 Awards Ceremony will occur on Wednesday, 18th December, in the College Hall. The awards ceremonies will cover both the academic awards and service and spirit awards and will occur during the following times:
- Academic Award Ceremony: 9.15 am- 10.35 am
- Service and Spirit Awards Ceremony: 11.15 am- 12.30 pm
Families will be notified if their daughter or son is receiving an award by Friday, 13th December. These awards ceremonies are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the end of the academic year, and parents and other family members are strongly encouraged to attend. After the second ceremony, students will return to PC for 15 minutes and will then be able to leave early as long as a note has been provided to their PC teacher. Supervision will be provided for those students who remain at the College for the rest of the afternoon.
Year 7-10 Reports
Year 7-10 Semester 2 reports will be issued via the Compass platform on Wednesday, 18th December, from 2.00pm. These reports will reflect your child’s learning across the second half of the academic year and will consist of the following aspects:
- Common grade in each subject studied using the A-E Common Grade Scale
- Descriptors explaining your child’s Knowledge, Skills and Understandings in each subject as well as their Commitment to Learning descriptors, which are a reflection of their attitude to the learning environment. These descriptors are a fantastic reflection tool and acknowledge the relative strengths and areas for growth in your son or daughter's learning progression.
- Pastoral Care comment, which is a reflection of your child’s engagement in PC and aspects of college life throughout the year.
Parents will have an opportunity to discuss their child’s report with teachers on Thursday, 19th December, from 8.30am until 11.00am. If you wish to arrange a meeting with a teacher, please contact the front office to arrange a time.

End of Year Attendance
As we approach the end of the school year, I want to remind everyone of the importance of daily attendance. Each school day is a valuable opportunity for learning, celebration, and connection.
We have many exciting activities and ceremonies planned to wrap up the year, and your child’s presence is essential. Attendance at all events is compulsory, and it ensures that your child doesn’t miss out on these meaningful experiences.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child’s education. Let’s finish the year strong together!

2025 School Travel Applications are Now Open
Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card (including a Term Bus Pass) for the first time will receive their School Opal card at their nominated postal address from mid-January 2025.
Students progressing from year 2 to year 3 and from year 6 to year 7 do not need to re-apply if they:
- are continuing at the same school, and
- are residing at the same address, and
- have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification.
Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification for their school travel entitlement need to renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, so their travel entitlement can remain valid for the start of the 2025 school year.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
In the Opal network, students should travel with a Child/Youth Opal card until they receive their valid School Opal card. If outside Greater Sydney, parents should contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs.
