Staff Appointments
I am pleased to announce that the appointment of our new Assistant Principals, who will be commencing in 2023, has been finalised.
Congratulations to Mr Matthew Bushe (Assistant Principal - Mission) and Mr Ian Lutton (Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching).
Mr Lutton replaces Mr Tim McCosker, who will be retiring at the conclusion of 2022. Ian has held many leadership roles in curriculum and pastoral care, in both schools and in the Catholic Schools Office. Most recently, Ian has worked as the Leader of Curriculum at the College since 2013.
Mr Bushe replaces Mr Michael Walsh who has acted in the position to replace me for the past 18 months. Matthew has held many leadership positions, including Religious Education Coordinator, Leader of School Evangelisation, and Leader of Literacy across our College and other Parish Schools.
Congratulations to our newly appointed leaders.
I would also like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Mr Michael Walsh for his ongoing commitment to the leadership of the College. Michael will return to his leadership position in Pastoral Care and Wellbeing in 2023.

HSC Examinations
Last Tuesday, Year 12 commenced their HSC examinations which continue until Friday, 4th November. I ask that you please keep them in your prayers as they continue to prepare and sit each exam.
The staff of SJRC wish you, Year 12, all the very best.
HSC Nominations
HSC students that enrol in practical courses have the opportunity for their major work to be selected for exhibitions in their area of study. This year we are thrilled to announce that we have nine Year 12 students nominated for inclusion in the various exhibitions.
Regional Youth Leaders 'Round Table' Forum
Our new College Captains, Sarah Garrett and Findlay Marshall were invited to attend a meeting with Hon. David Littleproud MP, Senator Perin Davey and Pat Conaghan MP, Federal Member for Cowper at the Regional Youth Leaders 'Round Table' Forum at Charles Sturt University as part of a 'Regional Listening Tour'.
The 'Round Table’ is aimed at creating a dialogue between our community and our Federal Government Representatives.
The focus of this particular forum will be to help our leaders answer the question ‘What is important to young people in the regions and how do we make it a reality?’
Student leaders will have a chance to network with other youth leaders and discuss the challenges we face as a community, region and nation.
I congratulate Sarah and Findlay for being ambassadors for our College.
2023 Traineeships
Congratulations to the following students who are the successful applicants for the 2023 Traineeship positions.
We look forward to welcoming all these students to our staff community in 2023.

Lismore Diocese Faith Formation Conference
The conference affirmed a great deal of what we are striving to achieve here at the College but also gave us time to reflect on the future focus of Catholic Education in our Diocese.
I would like to share a few extracts from ‘The Educational Ministry in the Lismore Diocese is one of Co-Responsibility in the Service of Mission.’
That ‘the student is at the centre of the school enterprise. At its heart, the Catholic school community focuses primarily on the development of the whole person, on each student’s unique physical, intellectual, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs, based on the Christian vision of its cultural heritage’
It continues on to explain the partnership between school and parents.
Firstly, that parents are ‘the first and natural educators of their children’ and that ‘Catholic education is a partnership of home, parish and school. And while there may exist in society a tendency to delegate the role of education solely to schools. Church teaching has emphasised that collaboration with the family is ’indispensable.’
These were just two of many important discussion points that were covered during the conference. The conference affirmed much of our work in the College, but we were also challenged to become better teachers and role models of the Catholic Faith in a contemporary Catholic school.
Each week the Parish produces a news bulletin. In this week’s bulletin:

Uniform Reminder
At SJRC, our culture of learning is underpinned by high expectations of all students across all facets of College life. These expectations extend to adherence with the Code of Presentation for Students.
All students are particularly reminded of the policy’s requirements regarding haircuts, nails and eyelash extensions.
In 2023, the following items will be phased out of the student uniform options:
1. White SAPPS socks; and
2. Old style black sports shorts with the white SAPSS lettering (excepting Year 12 whose old style shorts are deemed to still fit the student).
We thank all parents and families for your partnership in supporting continued high standards of presentation for students.
Gel Blasters in NSW
The College has received communication from the NSW Police Force alerting us to the emerging issue of Gel Blasters (Gel Gun). It is a criminal offence to possess a Gel Gun in NSW unless you have a firearms licence. If a student is found to have a Gel Gun at school, it will be confiscated, parents and the police will be called and the student will face disciplinary action.
I encourage you to read the letter in full - Gel Blasters in NSW and thank you for your support in regard to this matter.

Nyiirun Djiyagan Wakulda Women’s Festival
On Friday, 14th October 2022 Ms Wallis and Mrs Taylor took our Mitjigan (girls) Group to this year's Nyiirun Djiyagan Wakulda Women’s Festival, hosted by Djiyagan Dhanbaan (Strong sister movement support group) held at Birpai Local Aboriginal Lands Council.
This free event allows Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal women to come together and celebrate culture and connect with each other. The girls could learn and participate in cultural activities such as weaving, art, face painting, and language workshops. Local TAFE students were offering hairdressing and nail workshops. Local community service providers held information stalls in a culturally safe environment to answer any questions.
Aunty Rhonda Radley opened the day with the Acknowledgement of Country in language/song performing with our very talented local dance groups.
This was a great opportunity for our students to connect with our local community.
UNSW Sydney
During the recent school holidays, six Year 11 students attended a residential university experience at UNSW Sydney. The trip was fully funded by the Country Education Foundation - Hastings Education Fund and UNSW, including flights, accommodation and all meals.
Congratulations to Emma Freeman, Josie Yardley, Harrison Brown, Isabel Krige, Anabelle Paynting and Sienna Heaton who were outstanding ambassadors for our College.
All students were very grateful for the opportunity and came away from the experience with increased knowledge about university life, courses on offer, living on campus and a sense of confidence about the possibility of moving to Sydney and succeeding in a large university campus.
We cannot thank Country Education Foundation - Hastings Education Fund and UNSW enough for the opportunity.
